VALR Becomes First Regulated Exchange to Integrate Hyperliquid Perps
Africa's largest centralized crypto exchange, VALR, will natively integrate Hyperliquid, unlocking onchain liquidity across 200+ perpetuals markets.
Africa's largest centralized cryptocurrency exchange, VALR, is making a significant structural move by becoming the first major regulated exchange anywhere in the world to natively integrate Hyperliquid's perpetuals infrastructure. The integration gives VALR direct access to onchain liquidity sourced from Hyperliquid's decentralized platform, covering more than 200 perpetuals markets — a breadth that would be difficult for most centralized venues to match through traditional means.
The move represents a meaningful convergence between the regulated, centralized exchange world and the decentralized finance ecosystem. Rather than building out its own derivatives order books from scratch or relying on fragmented liquidity providers, VALR is effectively routing through Hyperliquid's onchain engine, a design choice that signals growing institutional confidence in decentralized liquidity layers as production-grade infrastructure.

For African crypto markets, the implications are notable. VALR has established itself as the dominant regulated platform on the continent, and plugging into a deep, onchain perpetuals venue could meaningfully expand the range of sophisticated trading instruments available to its user base — a demographic that has historically had limited access to derivatives products offered natively on compliant platforms.
More broadly, this integration could serve as a template for how regulated exchanges globally approach liquidity sourcing in the derivatives space. If a compliance-focused exchange can embed decentralized liquidity without sacrificing its regulatory standing, it challenges the assumption that CeFi and DeFi must remain structurally separate. The industry will be watching whether VALR's regulatory framework accommodates this model cleanly, and whether other licensed exchanges follow suit.
